Jora Van Maanen, LISW

Jora Van Maanen is a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Iowa. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa. Three weeks later, she attended the University of Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa, and obtained her Master’s of Social Work in 2018. After graduation, Jora worked at Orchard Place as a Functional Family Therapist, providing therapy to adolescents and their families. She met with families in their homes throughout southern Iowa. This experience provided her with the skills to collaborate with systems, handle a crisis, and reframe situations.

Jora utilizes a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach when working with clients. She has a passion for working with children, adolescents, and young adults. In her practice, Jora values the importance of relationships, and she ensures every client feels heard and understood. She works with a variety of mental health concerns.

In the future, Jora desires to obtain further training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

In her personal life, Jora enjoys camping, reading, going on walks, and eating ice cream. Her favorite things to do involve spending time with her husband, family, friends, and cat.
