Jennifer Kramer, LISW
Jennifer L Kramer is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who uses an integrative approach to therapy to meet people where they are. She recognizes reaching out for help can be difficult and understands there are a variety of reasons why someone might seek therapy. Jennifer assists teenagers and adults who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harming thoughts/behaviors and trauma. Jennifer relies on her multiple skill sets and training to validate one’s experience and believes in providing a secure and comfortable space where thoughts, feelings, behaviors and relationships can be explored to better understand the issues and oneself.
Jennifer’s personal experience with family and friends lead her to seek a career where she can show compassion and serve people who are hurting. Jennifer received her Associate of Arts degree from DMACC, her Bachelor degree from Central College, majoring in Psychology and Religion, and her Master degree from the University of Iowa Social Work Program in 2015. She had done research on Self-Harm and Emotional Intelligence, Religiosity and a Sense of Community, and Church Traditions. She is licensed in the state of Iowa. Jennifer has worked in a Community Mental Health setting and a Private Practice. She had training as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor, but no longer holds classes. She has received trainings in a variety of modalities including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), HeartMath (a form of biofeedback), Bowen's Family System Theory, and Mindfulness. She enjoys learning more about Brain Health and the Nervous System.
Jennifer believes therapy is an investment to better understand oneself, relationships with others and the world around them. She believes in working together to identify distressing symptoms, explore underlying beliefs, define values and create goals to achieve desired success.
In her personal life, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband, 4 adult children and grandchildren. Jennifer also enjoys riding her motorcycle, golfing, fishing, kayaking and playing games with family and friends.
